Tour Guide at Mount Holyoke College
She/her/hers
Class of 2025
Hometown: Brooklyn, NY
Major: English; Sociology
Minor: Asian Pacific American Studies
My favorite class of all time is Introduction to Asian American Literature with Professor Iyko Day! It was the class that made me decide to major in English and pursue the Five College Certificate in Asian/Pacific/American Studies. From the class, I've grown so much as a reader, writer, and thinker but it has also given me the space to make personal connections to the course content, and thereby, begin seeing myself as belonging to and part of the world and not merely existing in it. If I could sum it up in a few words, I'd say that taking the class made me want to be a better person!
My favorite MHC tradition is absolutely Mountain Day! I love going up the mountain with my friends and taking a bunch of photos! It always reminds me of how strong the Mount Holyoke community is and how proud I am to call Mount Holyoke #MoHome.
I chose Mount Holyoke College because I loved that it offered a collaborative learning environment that consistently supports and uplifts you. Prior to Mount Holyoke, I had a lot of doubt about my academic ability, particularly with subjects such as math and science. Coming to Mount Holyoke has shown me that I can absolutely learn and do things that I find difficult, and that I shouldn't limit myself with the false dichotomy of STEM versus the humanities/social sciences and instead see them as interconnected! My learning has become that much more colorful and enriching since -- I love, love Mount Holyoke's supportive nature and liberal arts curriculum.
My advice to prospective students is to trust yourself. Applying to college can be so stressful! But you are talented and wonderful and so smart, and you are constantly learning new things about yourself everyday! Embrace it all and try not to get too caught up with who you think you're supposed to be or what you believe you're supposed to be doing. Just trust yourself and trust that it'll all work out because you are astounding and will inspire the communities you are a part of, wherever you go.
