My first year seminar- Foundations of Restorative Justice. This class completely reframed the path I thought I wanted to go on and inspired me to pursue alternatives to incarceration conflict resolution work. I chose to study abroad in New Zealand because of this class. Another class I've loved was Disability and Religion because it encouraged me to think across intersections I didn't know much about previously and I had the freedom to explore how I situate myself within that intersection.
Sexual Health Trivia night! Every fall, Planned Parenthood Generation Action hosts a trivia night, where we have different categories on Kahoot and people can win a wide range of prizes, and safe sex supplies are available. I love it because it brings in people all across the community and is a space where people can learn more and have fun while doing it!
I wanted to spend my college years learning in a community, not pushing through competition. I know whatever career I go into, being able to collaborate will be critical and I wanted to be in an environment that fostered that and let me have a hands-on experience.
Focus on how a school makes you feel!! The professors and classes offered at an institution can change, but the culture is typically more consistent. Think through where you could see yourself growing over 4 years and envision the kind of people you want to be surrounded by in that journey. I knew Mount Holyoke was for me because I couldn't wait to belong to the long lineage of Mount Holyoke Alums that aren't just all around the world but also changing the world.
